The subscription service business has seen substantial growth in the last several years with everything from small necessity-based services to more luxury-type items. Food and beauty products account for a bit more than half of all subscription service purchases with apparel close behind in third place. When it comes to subscription services, you have your pick of a couple of different options in almost every category. I’ve taken the liberty to do some of the heavy lifting for you and compiled what I feel are the top 10 subscription services for men (and some for women as well).

Dollar Shave Club

One of the top suppliers in their category, Dollar Shave Club provides everything you need to “look, feel, and smell your best.” Dollar Shave Club offers products in the following areas:

  • shaving
  • deodorant
  • wipes
  • shower
  • oral care
  • skincare
  • hair products
  • cologne

There’s not much this company doesn’t provide as far as toiletry needs. They also offer travel tool kits consisting of nail trimmers and scissors to travel toiletry bags. You can also purchase the service as a gift!

The shaving plans start at $4.00 per month for a basic two-blade razor, and that gives you a handle with the first order. The five-pack blade refills come every month, or you can change the frequency if need be. The next level is $7.00 for a four-blade razor, and the top of the line is $10 for the Executive 6 blade razors. You really can’t beat the price and ease of Dollar Shave Club. I personally use the 4 Blade razor program and have done so for years.

Quip

Quip is an electric toothbrush company. I know what you’re thinking, who wants to order their toothbrush online. I’ll tell you millions of people. A few years ago my dentist suggested using an electric toothbrush because I needed to brush longer and it is better for your gums. So like most people, I went out to the local drug store and picked myself up a plug-in model.

This toothbrush works fine, but it is a continual problem to have to buy brush heads, and then I have to deal with wires running all over my bathroom vanity. I wish I had known about Quip at the time.

The Quip toothbrush runs on a single AAA battery that lasts up to 3 months. Battery power means you don’t have to deal with messy wires. Quip mounts right on your wall or mirror via suction. The Quip toothbrush alerts you when its time to stop brushing by a built-in two-minute timer providing the perfect brush each time.

You can also purchase a travel case so you can take your Quip with you when you leave home on vacation or business trips. The service begins at $25 for a brush, and the quarterly fee is $5. That provides you a replacement brush head and battery.

Stitch Fix

Let’s face it; men are challenged when it comes to picking out clothes for ourselves. My method of shopping used to consist of purchasing what looked good and matched on the mannequins in the store. Stitch Fix takes the guesswork out by providing a personalized styling service to deliver top of the line clothing to your door monthly.

How it works is easy. The first step is filling out a style profile which determines your style, sizing, and price range that is comfortable for you. You then choose your delivery frequency.

It is $20 a month to have a stylist pick out clothes for you. Once they arrive, you purchase what you like and send back the rest. I’m not saying you have to ditch all your black concert t-shirts, but maybe it’s time for an upgrade.

Armour Box

Under Armour is one of the leading suppliers of performance athletic wear. It’s hard for a day to go by without seeing the recognizable Under Armour logo. I am not a paid spokesperson for the company (but I am open to the possibility), but I love their products. Their stuff lasts and is perfect for any active individual from young children to adults, both men, and women.

Armour Box provides athlete and gym-goers (both men and women) with the apparel and accessories they need to perform, look, and feel their best.

Here’s how Armour Box works. You pick your goals and an Under Armour outfitter handpicks 4-6 items of Under Armour gear that fit your goals and style. You have a week to try the clothes on and see how they fit. There is no fee to use the service. Pay only for the gear you keep and ship the rest back.

You can also define your schedule preferences for every 30, 60, or 90 days. They also offer you 20% off if you keep everything in the box! Under Armour stuff is not inexpensive and there’s a reason. It’s good quality, and you get what you pay for.

Me Undies

Underwear by the mail for both men and women? Yes, that is what Me Undies is all about. Each month you will receive a fresh pair delivered right to your door. All you do in the beginning is to choose your cut and style, and Me Undies takes care of the rest. You can select basic patterns to some pretty crazy ones; it’s all up to you!

In between shipments you will receive discounted member pricing on other items such as socks, lounge-wear, and extra undies. After all, you can’t wear the same pair every day. You can change styles and colors at any time, skip a month, or cancel at any time. Though I am not a user of Me Undies (I’m a traditional black boxer brief kind of guy if you were wondering) I have heard great things about this company. The products are of high quality and soft.

Each spirit “club” has its own starting price, so make sure you pick the one you want. There are also gift subscriptions available in 3, 6, or 12-month time frames. I didn’t know Under Armor had a subscription service! I’ll have to check that one out because I’ve always been curious about their stuff and if it was any good. I’ve always been a Nike girl (being a Duck/UofO fan, I kind of have to be) and buy that primarily for my active wear. But I also wear a Nike tank top under my normal shirts, and those get really expensive quickly! The only subscription service I currently use is for Grunt Style where they send me a shirt every month. I’ve heard great things about GS president Tim Jensen’s other company Alpha Outpost, although I haven’t tried it yet. The Dollar Shave Club subscription would be the one from this list I would go for because it seems like I spend a small fortune on razors, especially because I like more blades, like 5 and 6. Great info, Scott!
